ABOUT

The Mayan Bee Sanctuary is newly opened on Cozumel, Mexico's largest island just off the Yucatan Peninsula in the Riviera Maya region. It is saving and conserving a population of tiny stingless Melipona bees, that have dwindled almost to extinction, since the height of the Mayan empire. They offer tours that explain their conservation work, the importance of the bees today and their role in ancient traditions, especially the importance of their honey. Time spent in this oasis is well worth the $8.00 entry fee.

You can also purchase a variety of products made from the exquisite and potent jungle honey.

HOW THEY ARE CREATING A BETTER WORLD

The effort going into educating tourists, along with conservation and preservation of this tiny stingless bee is an exceptional contribution towards rejuvenating and celebrating both the unique local environment and traditional way of life.

Not only is this sanctuary having a positive impact reviving a lost part of Mayan culture, but it is also forming a sustainable income for local families.
